Move Review By Hannah McLaughlin

Renaud makes Big Hit “Despicable Me”
By: Hannah McLaughlin

The animated comedy “Despicable Me” by Chris Renaud was one of the best movies I have ever seen.
Steve Carrel played Gru, the world’s number 2 villain. Gru hatches a plan to steal the moon. Vector (Jason Segel) has stolen the shrink ray from Gru for freezing his head. Gru now has to get the shrink ray back from Vector to steal the moon.
To get the shrink ray back, Gru has Dr. Nefario (Russell Brand) build cookie bots. Gru also adopted the three girls who sold Vector cookies. The cookie bots help Gru steal the shrink ray back. Dr. Nefario sends the girls back to the orphanage because he thought that they were a distraction to Gru. As Gru steals the moon, Vector kidnapped the girls, and will only give them back in exchange for… the moon! Will Gru be willing to give up the moon?
My favorite character is the oldest girl Margo, played by Miranda Cosgrove. She takes care of her siblings and shows Gru how to take care of them. One of the funniest parts of this movie was the Minions. They are easily distracted, and fight over the smallest things.
The special effects and camera angles are amazing. When Gru and the girls are on the roller coaster, I felt like I was there, too. The camera angle was such that it was like I was there.
The lighting is very cool. The whole area where Gru lives is bright, except for his house. It is dark inside and out, so his house is kind of the eyesore of where he lives. There aren’t any costumes, but the animation is spectacular.
This is a must-see movie. It is very funny, and done very well
